Darin is married to Priscilla Harris now for 12 years and have 5 growing and wonderful children, Bailey, Darin Jr, Aidan, Allen and Nicole.
Darin’s love and passion for law enforcement started and at a young age while growing up in Flat Rock, Michigan. As a child, unforeseen circumstances occurred, his father was murdered and his mother was physically assaulted outside of his grandmother’s residence, causing Detroit Police Department (DPD) to be involved. The compassion they had for not only him, but also to his mother, which led him down the path of respect for law enforcement. At around the age of 14, he joined the Flat Rock Police Explorers Program (post #797). A few short years later, during his time with the Police Explorers, he also pursued the opportunity to work with the Flat Rock Fire Department in May of 1991. While working for the fire department, he also became an Emergency Medical Technician in 1995. In 1996, while he continued to work for the fire department, he completed the Flat Rock Police Explorers Program and continued his career in Law Enforcement with the Detroit Police Department where he graduated from the police academy in 1997 from the six-month academy. While continuing his career with Detroit Police department, he also maintained his position with the Flat Rock Fire Department. As soon as he earned his way to patrol, he excelled in the 9th PCT, he grew with the multi-cultural community, and in doing so was able to earn the respect of the community. In addition, a few years later he would be awarded for saving a police officer’s life from a downriver police department agency. Then in a few short years after the save, he was promoted to Sergeant in 1999 with the Flat Rock Fire Department.
After working for both the Fire Department and Detroit Police Department, he decided to join the military, and enlisted into the U.S. Army in 2003 where he served with the 160th S.O.A.R(A). During his tenure with the 160th S.O.A.R(A), He completed several tours overseas to Iraq and Afghanistan. Receiving awards such as the Presidential Unit Citation, the Afghanistan Campaign medal with two campaign stars, and the Overseas Service Ribbon, 2nd award, along with several others. He received an honorable discharge in May of 2014; from there he did a yearlong internship with the Seattle Division Drug Enforcement Administration.
In 2015, he began his employment with the Department of Defense as a Federal Police Officer. He attended a three-month long police academy, at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Academy (FLETC). During his time with the DOD Police Department, in March of 2017, He was promoted to Sergeant two years later, where he oversees upwards of 100 patrol officers. During his time with the D.O.D., he has attended leadership courses, and completed the Law Enforcement Supervisors Leadership training program at FLETC.
His experience with working with the Flat Rock Fire Department, Detroit Police Department, 160th S.O.A.R(A) unit, and his current position as a D.O.D Police Sergeant has prepared him to pursue his position as Sheriff with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
In serving with departments with personnel levels over 2,500. His “can do” attitude has made him the leader that he is. Darin has always been the go-to person to get the job done. He is well respected among his peers and subordinates; he has been on the public safety front lines for most of his adult life. His leadership has been rewarded over and over and he continues to lead from the front through vision, values, experience, and trust.
Darin will serve the Pierce County Sheriff’s department with professionalism to the highest degree and take accountability for his and the departments’ actions. Darin will lead the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department into the 21st century and beyond.
